Conxxus, a fiber optic company owned by Metro Communications, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, August 23rd. This marked the beginning of a construction project that will deliver fiber-optic internet to the City of Pontiac.
In the coming weeks, Conxxus will begin working on laying fiber optic conduits and cables throughout the city.
Crews will begin working on the Northwest side of the city first, on 4H Park Road, Route 66, Water Street, and Locust Street first. Construction is anticipated to be completed by November of this year but could continue for longer.
Construction will involve burying fiber conduits and cables throughout the right-of-way along every street. Once the fiber is laid, crews will connect the various glass fibers together, and then they will test the light signal through the fiber before connecting to residences.
