The Pontiac Fire Department would like to announce the promotion of FF. Jeremy Highland to Lieutenant as the result of Capt. Hanson's recent promotion from Lieutenant.  In addition to Lt. Highland's responsibility as a company officer; he will also assist the Frie Chief with the Code Enforcement Division.  We would like to wish Lt. Highland the best of luck with his new position with the fire department.

The Pontiac Fire Department would like to announce the official retirement of Capt. Todd Gould.  After 27 years of public service to the Pontiac community and the Livingston County area, we would like to wish Capt. Gould a healthy and happy retirement. We wish him the best of luck in the next chapter of his life!

Pontiac Fire Department Received New Air Packs Through AFG Grant

The Pontiac Fire Department is proud to announce that they have received their 26 new air pack units which include a mask, voice amplifier, backpack harness, and 2 air bottles per unit.  They were purchased through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) that the department received in August.  The air packs will help protect the firefighters when they enter hazardous atmospheres during fires, hazardous material leaks, and confined space operations.   The new air packs will replace the fire department’s 17 year old SCBAs this upcoming Friday, November 18th, 2020.

The Pontiac Fire Department would like to recognize Capt. Todd Gould on his anniversary with the department.  Capt. Gould has been a career firefighter for 22 years now and on the Pontiac Fire Department for a collective 27 years.  Throughout his career he has worked his way up through the ranks and has played a major part in the department's emergency response to some of the largest and most challenging incidents our community has faced over the course of almost 3 decades.  He has also been an integral part of the development of the Training Division serving both as an instructor and now as Training Officer. 

On behalf of our organization we would like to thank Capt. Gould for his dedication to our community and leadership within our fire department!

The Pontiac Fire Department would like to recognize FF. Devon Johansen as he reaches his 1 year anniversary with the department as a career firefighter.  During his first year as a career firefighter with the department he has completed several objectives to complete and graduate from his probationary status with our organization.  During this period he has graduated from Basic Operations Firefighter Academy, completed driver / fire apparatus engineering training, and passed his quarterly evaluations.  As a result of his hard work he is now a full fledge member of the department.  Congratulations FF. Johansen!

Thanks to the Pontiac Fire Department Foreign Fire Tax Fund the Pontiac Fire Department was able to re-paint the entire apparatus bay area, as well as, re-paint apparatus bay doors.

After 20 years of the Deputy Chief position being vacant the City of Pontiac approved the reinstatement of the rank within the Pontiac Fire Department.  

Effective July 16th, 2020 Captain Andrew Hoeniges was officially promoted to Deputy Chief.

Paramedics

Paramedic Students

The Pontiac Fire Department has taken a big step in working toward their goal of upgrading Squad 66 from Basic Life Support (BLS) Non-Transport to Advanced Life Support (ALS) Non-Transport apparatus by sending 4 firefighters to Paramedic course at OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center.  The course began on June 17th, 2020 and will conclude in September 2021.

The 4 students are FF. Caleb Freese, FF. Josh Easton, FF. Josh Lanning, and FF. Devon Johansen.  With the addition of current FF. / Paramedic Dillon "Eddie" Prendergast the department will have a total of 5 Paramedics on the department.  Once the firefighters have received their Paramedic license the department will upgrade Squad 66 to the ALS level.

Effective March 1st, 2020, Sgt. Rick Higgins was  promoted to Assistant Fire Chief.  The Assistant Fire Chief will replace the Sergeant rank within the command structure and will be positioned between the POC / Vol Firefighters and career Firefighters.

The Pontiac Fire Department is proud to announce that Probationary FF. Joshua Lanning has graduated from the BOF Academy that was held for 9 weeks at NIPSTA in Glenview, IL.  Prob. FF. Lanning is now assigned A (Black) Shift.  We have very high hopes for him and his future with the fire department.

Graduation from Fire Academy

Pontiac Fire Department would like to announce that Probationary Firefighter Devon Johansen has graduated from Basic Operations Fire Academy held at NIPSTA Fire Academy in Glenview, IL.  He will be assigned to B (Red) Shift to complete his probationary training with the department.  We have very high hopes for his future with the department and we welcome him back to shift.  Congratulations!
