Local History & Genealogy Resources

The Pontiac Public Library has a collection of resources available for searching local history and genealogy. Many of the items in this collection are rare, and are in fragile condition. Access to those valuable resources is controlled. Those who wish to use restricted books will need to register at the circulation desk and leave an ID while they use the collection. Other local history resources may be found in the Local History Resource Room. Please ask a librarian for assistance.

The Library provides access to a database comprised of past editions of the Pontiac Daily Leader. Use this link to visit this database: Daily Leader Historical Archive. You will need to log in with your Pontiac Public Library card number. In addition to the electronic database, the library holds microfilm copies of our local newspapers dating back to the last part of the 19th Century. To facilitate your search, volunteers have compiled a card file that can be searched by last name. If you need assistance, please ask a librarian.
