A permit is required for any new construction or additions/alterations to existing structures, garages and carports, decks, swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, storage sheds, siding, electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, signs, demolitions, curb cuts, roofing, moving buildings and occupancy. A permit must be applied for prior to starting any work. There are regulations regarding lot coverage, impervious coverage, rear yard coverage, yard setbacks and maximum height requirements, to name a few. To apply for a permit, the following items are needed:
- A site plan showing your lot, dimensions, all buildings and structures located on the lot and the setbacks for same, and all dimensions of the buildings and structures.
- Your proposed project should also be drawn on the site plan with all proposed setbacks & dimensions.
- All dimensions of "impervious" surfaces. Impervious surface is described as "Any material that substantially reduces or prevents the infiltration of storm water into previously undeveloped land. Impervious surface shall include, but not be limited to, the ground area covered by buildings, driveways, parking areas, sidewalks, swimming pools and patios (whether covered or uncovered.)"

HOME OCCUPATIONS
If a home occupation is conducted by any resident in a residential zoning district, a permit is required. There are specific regulations that must be followed to preserve the residential character of the neighborhood. For more information, call 815-844-1038.
